Outreach

We are busy working on a number of outreach initiatives. And your support is crucial to their success.

Financial Aid Program

Our financial aid program addresses the core of our mission. In order for us to teach all kinds of music to all kinds of people, we are currently seeking individual, corporate, and foundation support that will benefit local children and their families to attend Zambaleta group classes and private lessons.

World Music and Dance in Public Schools

In light of recent cuts in public music education programs, Zambaleta plans to provide world music and dance classes in San Francisco public schools. We are currently working on developing a pilot program at John O’Connell High School of Technology. Help us bring our world music and dance instructors to our schools.

After School Program

The Mission District has been witnessing increased drug violence. Our after school program aims to prevent drug violence by providing world music and dance classes to at-risk youth in our community.

My People’s Music

In partnership with a number of cultural centers in San Francisco, Zambaleta is developing a special program to teach first and second-generation immigrant youths about their respective cultures through their music and dance traditions. We hope “My People’s Music” gives young immigrants a chance to gain a healthy sense of hyphenated cultural identity and thereby empower them to participate in their respective cultures of origin.

Disability Curriculum

Zambaleta is developing the first comprehensive curriculum of world music and dance classes devoted to students with disabilities.

Seniors Classes

Zambaleta instructors will teach weekly world music and dance seminars to residents at various elderly homes in our community. Starting January 2010, Seniors 65 years or older also get a special discount for in-school classes.

Music Flea Market

A free community event that brings together anyone looking to buy, sell, trade or donate musical instruments, music paraphernalia, recordings, audio equipment, or dance costumes. The event features musical acts, spontaneous street performances, food vendors, and flea market dwellers of all ages. The Music Flea Market occurs on the first Saturday of every other month and is a part of MAPP (Mission Arts & Performance Project). For more information, click here.
