About
In Egypt, that’s what we call a spontaneous chaotic street party. Zambaleta happens when everyone is actively participating, whether by playing music, singing, or dancing. That’s what we chose to call our nonprofit because we aspire to create an inclusive musical community where everyone has equal access to music education irrespective of their economic background or musical competency. And that’s what we do. We develop environments conducive to experiencing and learning music.

At zambaleta, we have two goals:

  1. teach all kinds of music and dance to all kinds of people
  2. create a musical community

We believe that:

  1. Hospitality creates a sense of community.
  2. By hospitality, we mean a culture of sharing.

  3. A sense of community improves musical learning.
  4. People learn music and dance better when they are in a safe and supportive environment.

  5. Music can also create a sense of community.
  6. Learning and performing music and dance can be a deeply transforming experience – and this experience may be used to bridge differences and build a sense of community among strangers.

Zambaleta’s role is to provide the right circumstances for the community – music cycle to take place (a sense of community that fosters deeper learning resulting in a deeper sense of community and so on). With hospitality resources (welcoming space & hospitable culture) and music resources (faculty & instruments), Zambaleta has the tools to jumpstart this community – music cycle.

We are a Member of the Intersection Incubator, a program of Intersection for the Arts providing fiscal sponsorship, incubation and consulting services to artists.
